Would you like to find out more about the potential that Disruptive Technologies have in the provision of education and training? The DISTINCT project will organise an online session on the 25th of January from 13:00 to 14:30 (CET) to present real good practices.
This online workshop, the third and last of the series of the DISTINCT Disruptive Tuesdays, focuses on the application of disruptive technologies -Virtual Reality (VR), Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI)- in education and training.
The session is targeted to responsible of public service provision, several examples will be showcased providing attendees with a better idea of the role that these technologies can play for improved education and training.
Agenda
13:00 Welcome to attendees and introduction of the workshop - Jose Manuel San Emeterio (ERNACT)
13:05 VR for accessible, immersive and engaging educational experiences - Alan Whiteside (Edify)
Presentation of Edify, a digital learning platform that combines gaming tech, virtual reality and user generated content to enable accessible, immersive and engaging educational experiences. Educators can teach in virtual environments and broadcast immersive lessons remotely over video conferencing platforms and multi-disciplinary teams can interact and collaborate through VR headsets in simulated environments and scenarios. Users can build their own content without the need for coding, specialist tools or knowledge and deliver it to their audience.
13:20 IoT for improved education environments - Ulf Hedestig (Umeå University)
Experience Norsjö village in Sweden where sensors were placed in classrooms with the purpose to communicate information to the general public and to create a discussion of the quality of the services provided. This initiative served to explore the possibility to use data-driven data, that is sensor data, to support open innovation or citizen-centric discussions.
13:35 VR & AI - The next generation, immersive, location-agnostic and machine-driven training experience - Lukasz Porwol (National University of Ireland, Galway)
Exploring the applicability of the emerging VR & AI technologies to innovation in training and education with specific highlights of benefits and challenges. We will present practical applications of available, highly accessible SocialVR platforms. We will also look at emerging achievements in allowing AI-driven interactions inside simulated VR environments, leveraging the latest available AI frameworks.
13:50 Break
14:00 Panel discussion
14:25 Concluding discussion: Possible future cooperation and steps
